Rolling release of the developer preview
Yesterday marked a major milestone for Teqlo, we went live with a preview release, which is just fancy speak saying what we are making available isn’t ready to be called a beta yet because a lot of functionality has yet to be packaged into a releasable form. Having said that, this is still a major accomplishment for us and we’re pleased.
Before I wax on about how cool all this is let me be the first to acknowledge that there is much to be done. For example, later this week we’ll roll into the service an editor for enabling communication between the teqlets (this is what we call the components that represent web services). This is a major piece of functionality that fulfills much of the promise that this company is founded on so you may ask why we came out with what we did when this was not included. The reason is that I made a decision to roll with what we had as of Sunday night because the team earned the right to see it go into action, even if that meant it would be a week before the communication piece was included. What I saw over the last couple of weeks is a group of engineers come together to be more than just a group of talented individuals but rather a team and to push the date even just a week would have been a big letdown.
We also have a lot of work to do in building out our component library, but I really don’t think that work will be finished as there will always be interesting components to add to the system. At any rate, because we have disabled formulas for the time being the ability of individual teqlet components to communicate is impaired.
So what exactly are we demonstrating here? Well, we have 1/2 of the promise fulfilled, that we can reliably render third party services as application components. Next week we will be ready to unveil communication between the components which means the ability to create full fledged applications with no programming required.
Lastly, if you signed up for the preview release and have not received an email from us with account information, don’t assume that you were not included. We have a very limited datacenter capability and are employing a “rolling thunder” strategy to the preview release with additional accounts provisioned as each day goes by. Additionally, what we have is so limited that I’m not sure having a lot of people bang on it is productive… in other words, getting the same feedback from 100 people as opposed to 20 really isn’t more useful to us. As we expand our functionality in the days and weeks ahead we will be asking more of you to help us by evaluating it. Thanks in advance.
